About The Job
Hōkūleʻa Academy is seeking passionate, skilled, and motivated Contracted Performers to join our dynamic team. As a contracted performer, you will play an essential role in delivering culturally rich and captivating Polynesian performances at a variety of events, resorts, and venues across Chicago and beyond. Performances will showcase traditional Polynesian dance styles, including Hawaiian Hula, 'Ori Tahiti, Siva Samoa, and more, providing a unique opportunity to represent the beauty and depth of Polynesian culture. The MC position will manage shows, and be the face of the performance guiding the audience through the show with trivia, facts, and fun interaction.
This is a part-time contract position with the expectation that performers meet a quota for each show season. Performers must be available for both weekday and weekend performances. Reliable transportation is a Must.
What Weʻre Looking For

Presentation: Performers must be well-presented, maintaining a professional and polished appearance at all times. They should have the poise and confidence to engage with diverse audiences, creating a welcoming and energetic atmosphere during performances and events.

Cultural Sensitivity: Respect for Polynesian culture and traditions. The MC/Host MUST be open to learning more about Polynesian heritage to authentically represent it in performances.

Availability: Performers must be available for evening, weekend, and some holiday performances. Flexibility for out-of-town performances is a plus.

Team-Oriented: Ability to collaborate effectively with fellow performers, choreographers, and directors in a team-oriented environment.

Professionalism: A strong work ethic, punctuality, and reliability. Must maintain a positive and professional attitude during rehearsals and performances open to continuous feedback from directors on how to improve, if necessary.

If we have approved of your application, we will extend you an invitation to audition.
Upon successful completion of the audition, you will be offered a contract and will undergo a training boot camp in preparation for professional shows and events.
